Job summary

sjb medical is seeking a Functional Assessor in the London area (Canning Town) to apply clinical expertise to assess how health conditions affect daily living and work. You will gather medical histories, perform examinations, and contribute to high-quality DWP reports.

The role involves face-to-face and video/phone assessments, working independently within a supportive multi-disciplinary team, with ongoing development and excellent work-life balance.

Qualifications

• Qualified healthcare professional registered in the UK.
• At least 12 months post-registration UK experience.
• Strong clinical decision-making and communication skills.

About the role

As a Functional Assessor, you'll use your clinical expertise to assess how health conditions impact people's daily lives and ability to work. It's a role that blends medical knowledge with meaningful human connection - giving you the chance to support individuals while contributing to a fair and compassionate benefits system.

You’ll carry out assessments both face-to-face and via video or phone, taking detailed medical histories and conducting physical examinations. Your findings will help inform accurate, high-quality reports for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). You’ll be trusted to work independently, but you’ll also be part of a supportive multi-disciplinary team that values collaboration and continuous learning.

• A registered Nurse, Paramedic, Occupational Therapist, Pharmacist or Physiotherapist with at least 12 months' post-registration UK experience
• Confident in clinical decision-making, with a strong understanding of functional assessment
• Skilled communicator, able to build trust and ask the right questions
• Digitally capable, with experience using clinical software and systems
• Self-motivated and organised, with a focus on quality and integrity
• Team-oriented, ready to support colleagues and contribute to a positive working culture
