Deadline: Not specified
The Laboratory for Fluid-Structure Interaction Studies at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth invites applications for a fully funded PhD position, available as early as Fall 2025. The successful candidate will receive full tuition support and a competitive stipend, joining a dynamic research group working at the intersection of fluid mechanics, structural dynamics, and fluid-structure interactions. Research topics include experimental and theoretical investigations with applications in marine energy, bio-inspired systems, and the structural response to complex flows.
Requirements
– Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field
– Strong understanding of fluid mechanics, vibrations, and structural dynamics, demonstrated through relevant coursework or research experience
– Hands-on experience with experimental setup design, instrumentation, measurement, and data analysis
– Proficiency in MATLAB programming
– Demonstrated motivation for high-impact research and publication in peer-reviewed journals
Preferred Qualifications
– Experience with flow visualization techniques (e.g., Particle Image Velocimetry)
– Background in fluid-structure interactions, flow-induced vibration, and nonlinear dynamics
– Record of publication in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals
