Job summary

Deliveroo is seeking a Software Engineer to help build the definitive online food company from our London office with a hybrid setup, typically 3 days in the office.

You will work across backend in Go and frontend in React/TypeScript, design and run A/B experiments, own large features, and collaborate across teams to scale our marketplace.

This role offers opportunities to mentor others, contribute to hiring, and shape the roadmap with a strong ownership mindset.

Qualifications

• Strong fullstack experience across backend (Go) and frontend (React/TypeScript).
• Experience designing, implementing and rolling out AB experiments with guardrail metrics.
• Comfortable operating in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment with shifting priorities.

• Track record of shipping iteratively and data-driven decisions.
• Willing to participate in an on-call rotation and incident response.

What you'll do?

As a Software Engineer at Deliveroo, your individual work contributes to achieving goals in and across your team. While you will work with your team and you may lead projects, some of your work will contribute outside of your direct remit. You will report to managers and group leads and together deliver the results.

Technical Execution:

You will improve code structure, have an impact on architecture, and review code of any scope produced by your team.

You'll aim to simplify the maintenance and operation of production systems, visibility, operational readiness, and health of your team's systems.

Collaboration & Leadership:

As well as leading from the front regarding technical execution, you'll build relationships with other engineering teams and, identify collaboration opportunities.

You will own larger pieces of work, assist with design and technical / implementation choices and influence the roadmap within your team.

You will take an active role in the hiring process and conducting engineering interviews. This will also extend to the current team where you will support the personal growth of colleagues, encouraging efficiency in their roles.

Expectations:

We want to emphasise that we don't expect you to meet all of the below but would love you to have experience in some of these areas.

• Strong fullstack experience - comfortable working across backend (Go, or similar) and web frontend (React/TypeScript) to unblock delivery end-to-end
• Experience designing, implementing and rolling out A/B experiments (or strong aptitude to quickly learn our experimentation platform) - including guardrail metrics, staged rollouts and reading results
• Comfortable operating in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment with shifting priorities and short XP cycles (weeks, not quarters)
• Strong ownership mindset - able to take a brief/RFC through design, implementation, rollout and production monitoring with minimal hand-holding
• Track record of shipping incrementally and iterating on data rather than big-bang launches
• Willing to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to incidents
