Job description

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a full-time, live-out nanny to join a warm, welcoming family in Hitchin, Hertfordshire.

This health-conscious and outdoorsy family runs a well-being business and values an active lifestyle. They are looking for a kind, nurturing, and fun nanny who is seeking a long-term position and is keen to become a valued member of their happy household. Dad is Brazilian, so although not essential, a nanny who can speak Portuguese would be a wonderful bonus, to help the children to learn the language.

Although both parents occasionally work from home, this is a sole charge position caring for their two children: a cheerful and energetic 6.5-year-old girl and her lively 3.5-year-old brother. The eldest child is home educated and attends Forest School Tuesday-Friday, so your primary responsibility during school hours will be looking after her younger brother, except for Monday when you will care for them both.

The hours will be 07.30-17.30, Monday-Friday (50 hours/week). There may need to be some flexibility due to work commitments, e.g. if the parents have work meetings, this will always be agreed with as much notice as possible and paid as overtime.

There will be the possibility of occasional proxy parenting, when the parents are away for business. This will be mutually agreed and paid as overtime. There may also be the opportunity to travel with the family.

The parents are passionate about supporting their children’s development in a balanced, engaging way. They are looking for someone who can provide a stimulating and nurturing environment, blending educational indoor activities (such as reading, singing, arts and crafts, baking, and music) with plenty of outdoor play in their large garden and countryside walks. During school holidays, you’ll also help arrange playdates, activities, and outings to keep the children happy, social, and safe.

You must be a confident and careful driver, with a clean licence and your own fully insured car. Duty mileage will be reimbursed.

As they employ a weekly cleaner, this role will be mainly nursery duties, but some help to keep the house running smoothly between cleans would be appreciated – emptying the dishwasher, making sure all rooms used are tidy at the end of the day, helping with the grocery shop, running errands, etc.
As well as general care of the children and keeping all common areas clean and tidy (kitchen, children’s rooms, playroom, etc), the duties are to include keeping on top of the family laundry.

The parents are very keen on good nutrition and would like you to provide healthy and nutritious meals for the children each day, following a meal plan if required.

This is a wonderful role and would suit someone who is happy to make a long-term commitment.
