Job Title: Gardener

Department

Reporting into the Estates Bursar, the Head Gardener leads a small team of full-time gardeners responsible for the maintenance, landscaping, and improvements to the School gardens across all sites. The department also assists with preparations for functions and events.

Post Overview

This is a full-time gardener position, reporting to the Head Gardener. The main responsibilities include:

1. Undertaking all aspects of garden maintenance such as lawn care, hedge trimming, plant upkeep, propagation, pruning, planting, nursery work, leaf raking, and litter picking.
2. Contributing to planning and improvement programs across the School sites.
3. Assisting in the upkeep of external furniture.
4. Supporting maintenance staff in setting up for School events and functions, including managing car parking.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors in all weather conditions, can work independently to a high standard, is self-motivated, and takes pride in their work. Experience in a commercial gardening environment, competence with garden machinery and equipment, and holding a full driving license are essential.

Work Details

The hours are Monday to Friday, with some overtime as needed. The salary is circa £25,400 per annum for applicants over 21 years old. A separate scale applies for those aged 16 to 21. The annual holiday entitlement is five weeks plus bank holidays. Staff are provided with a uniform, and full training will be given.
