Job responsibilities

Encouragementand provision of regular dental care for adults and children resident on theislands, treating a target number of patients

Provisionof emergency dental care for the residents of and visitors to the islands,ensuring all patients presenting with a dental emergency receive advice andtreatment as appropriate within 24 hours of contact either direct or via ourCall Centre

Minimisingmainland referrals for specialist or generalist dental services

Enhancingthe oral health of the island population with particular emphasis on childdental health

Workingas part of the whole dental team in the provision and delivery of dental careservices to patients and complimentary working with other health professionalson the islands and in Cornwall

Beingflexible with duties to ensure the smooth running of the practice and takingownership of tasks to ensure these are completed in an accurate and timelymanner

Providingexcellence of service including written clinical detail enabling colleagues toprovide face-to-face treatment or other interventions at future appointments

Activelyengaging with Smile Together teams and participating in peer review, clinical auditactivities, planning and development sessions and in-house meetings. Engagingwith the feedback mechanisms for any concerns you raise.

Beingresponsible for safe working and practice on a day-to-day basis in sites ofclinical activity, ensuring compliance with clinical governance andlegislation, appropriate health, safety and security procedures within the workarea, and reporting accidents, incidents and near misses using the SmileTogether incident reporting procedure

Maintaining and developing your clinical competency and continuingprofessional/personal development according to agreed training needs via ourSmile Together Training Academy, other external educational providers

Developing a Personal Development Plan as described in the GDC Standards

On occasions you may be required to visit andwork from other locations where you would need to integrate as part of thelocal team

Playinga valuable part in contributing to the success of our organisation

Person Specification
Experience
  • Post qualification experience minimum five years
  • Experience supporting and mentoring colleagues (dentist, nurse, receptionist)
Knowledge and Skills
  • Competency in the common aspects of general dentistry and experience of a wide range of procedures acquired through training and clinical experience
  • Demonstrable understanding of all aspects of pain and anxiety management, particularly children and anxious patients
  • Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and professional manner
  • Competent and confident in dealing with urgent and emergency dental care
  • Evidence of/commitment to continuing professional and personal development
  • Ability to understand and adhere to policies and procedures
  • Familiarity with NHS dental services including of regulations, guidance, referral processes and local policy
  • Trained to recognise, respond to and manage medical emergencies (BLS certification)
  • Knowledge of systems of care provision and current health and safety regulations including but not limited to COSHH, ionising radiation and HTM01-05
  • Awareness of and ability to keep confidentiality and handle sensitive data
  • Knowledge of the GDPR and NHS confidentiality guidelines (EG Galdicott) and their implications
  • Knowledge of systems of healthcare governance and assurance, including but not limited to audit and service improvement.
