Job role - Full-Time SEND Teaching Assistant

Are you passionate about supporting children with special educational needs and making a real difference in their daily school experience? We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join an inclusive and nurturing school community.

About the Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers and the SENCO to provide tailored support to pupils with a range of learning needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. This may include 1:1 support or small group interventions, both in the classroom and in specialised settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individualised support to pupils with SEND, helping them access the curriculum and achieve their full potential.
  • Adapt learning materials and activities under teacher guidance.
  • Foster positive, supportive relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and independence.
  • Assist with implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs), EHCPs, and behaviour support strategies.
  • Support pupils' emotional and social development through consistent and compassionate interaction.
  • Work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external professionals to ensure the best outcomes for pupils.

What We’re Looking For

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND (in a school or similar setting).
  • A calm, patient, and resilient attitude, with a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and a commitment to promoting pupil welfare.
  • Relevant qualifications (Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant or SEND-specific training) are desirable but not essential.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position, with the possibility of becoming permanent later. We offer FREE online safeguarding and Prevent Duty training to all workers. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and subscribe to the DBS Update Service.
