Job summary

Debenhams Group is seeking a Team Lead to join our Software Development team in Manchester. You will balance hands-on technical leadership with people management, setting direction, reviewing code, and guiding architectural decisions for a team of four developers.

You’ll work with React and Node.js, deploy to AWS, and use event-driven patterns with SNS, SQS and EventBridge. The role is based at our central Manchester office three days per week, with hybrid working.

Qualifications

• 5+ Years’ Development Experience, incl. ≥3 yrs in a management/team-leading role.
• Hands-on React & Node.js in production with cloud architecture knowledge.
• Experience with CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code (GitHub Actions, Terraform).
• Knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL/DocumentDB/DynamoDB).
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures (SNS/SQS/EventBridge).
• Strong communication, feedback, and people leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of four developers, balancing hands-on technical work with people management.
• Review code, set direction, and make architectural decisions.
• Plan sprints, prioritise backlog, and manage delivery risk.
• Own incident response and root cause analysis for team applications.
• Foster coaching and growth within the team.
