Job summary

Other Media, a leading digital agency focused on transforming the sports industry, seeks a skilled Full Stack PHP Developer to maintain and extend scalable backend services across Drupal and Symfony components.

You'll collaborate with product, UX, and project teams to deliver fast, interconnected platform features, data pipelines, and analytics tooling, while contributing to tooling, testing infrastructure, and secure deployments.

Qualifications

  • Excellent Symfony v7+ knowledge and experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of Symfony components and their design patterns.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience with AWS services (SQS, Step Functions, Kinesis, S3, DynamoDB, Lambda).
  • Experience developing event-driven applications and shared PubSub pipelines.
  • Experience using Serverless Framework or similar.
  • Excellent SQL knowledge, especially optimisation and indexes.
  • Experience designing well-documented internal API contracts.
  • Experience with OpenSearch querying.
  • Experience using GitHub Actions and Claude/Copilot CLI.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and Git/GitHub proficiency.
  • Security awareness and knowledge of OWASP.
  • Bash/zsh scripting skills.
  • Experience setting up secure LEMP hosting with Linux, Nginx, PHP, and caching layers is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve all existing backend services.
  • Maintain data pipelines and analytics integration.
  • Collaborate with Drupal, Magento, Frontend, iOS and Android teams on API contracts.
  • Design and implement scalable Symfony-based backend features from requirements to delivery.
  • Participate in code reviews across teams.
  • Lead end-to-end testing for quality delivery.
  • Develop and maintain Drupal/Symfony integration modules.
  • Maintain CI/CD pipelines, tests, linting, and automated checks.
  • Ensure secure deployment processes.
  • Assist operations with daily monitoring for issues.
  • Provide on-call support on a rotation basis.

Through continuous internal R&D, we stay ahead of tech trends to keep our clients leading from the front.

We are looking to grow our development team with an additional Full Stack PHP Developer who will work closely with product, UX, and project teams to maintain and deliver fast, scalable and interconnected platform services. These services vary from engagement tools such as polling and prediction to services such as push notification systems and high throughput analytics and data pipelines.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects across the sports sector. They will also be able to assist with maintain and improving our developer tooling, CI/CD and testing infrastructure, in addition to being a key member of the team providing new capabilities and integrations to our growing platform.

Responsibilities
  • Maintaining and improving all existing backend services.
  • Maintaining and improving our first party analytics and data pipelines and ensuring integration of all new features with these pipelines.
  • Working with specialist Drupal, Magento, Frontend, iOS and Android teams to gather API contract and functionality requirements for interconnected platform features.
  • When new features are requested, designing and implementing highly scalable and resilient microservice-style backend platform features built on Symfony end to end, all the way from the requirements analysis stage to the delivery of the feature.
  • Participating in team code review practices, reviewing code from other teams and working with them to review your own code.
  • Leading end to end testing to ensure high quality delivery to the product and project teams.
  • Implementing and maintaining features and integration modules within Drupal which is also based on the Symfony framework
  • Maintaining automated test, lint and static analysis pipelines in GitHub actions
  • Maintaining and owning secure deployment processes
  • Assisting operations team with daily monitoring regiments to identity issues early
  • Providing out of hours on-call support on a rotation basis
Skills and experience
  • Excellent Symfony v7+ knowledge and experience
  • Excellent knowledge of Symfony components and their design patterns: Service Container, Dependency Injection, Cache (APCu/Redis/Memcache), Service Locators, Compiler Passes, Bundles, Console, Serializer, Validator, etc.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience with AWS services such as SQS, Step Functions, Kinesis, S3, DynamoDB, Lambda
  • Experience developing event-driven applications and shared PubSub pipelines
  • Experience using Serverless Framework or similar
  • Excellent SQL knowledge especially optimisation and indexes
  • Experience designing well-documented internal API contracts as part of the design process
  • Experience with OpenSearch querying
  • Experience using GitHub Actions and either Claude or Copilot CLI
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Experience working with Git and GitHub, and following code review practices
  • Excellent security awareness and knowledge of OWASP
  • Excellent bash and/or zsh scripting skills
  • Some experience setting up and maintaining secure LEMP hosting (Linux, Nginx, MariaDB, PHP) and configuring Varnish, Redis and/or Memcache is desirable
