Job description

Description

We are looking for a full-stack developer to join a growing InsurTech business unit (headquartered in Reigate) building market-leading insurance software with a focus on the development of modern SaaS based solutions.

You will join at a genuine inflection point: we are moving from AI-assisted coding toward an agentic software development lifecycle, where engineers increasingly describe intent, and orchestrate, review and govern the work that AI executes.

The Role

Today the role focuses on:

  • Working with the Product Owner to define, refine and deliver the product backlog.
  • Designing and building software solutions that meet functional and non-functional requirements, using AI coding tools to accelerate delivery.
  • Writing and maintaining test-related code - unit tests, test frameworks and automated test cases.
  • Reviewing and debugging code to identify defects, performance bottlenecks, and technical debt.
  • Participating in Agile/scrum activities (planning, stand-ups, retrospectives) and continuously improving team velocity, process and engineering practice.
  • Participating in incident response and continuously harden the platform based on production learnings

The role will evolve and we expect more focus on:

  • Business outcomes - partnering closely with business stakeholders to understand underlying needs, challenge assumptions where appropriate, and measure success through tangible business and user outcomes.
  • Design over implementation - spending more time defining system boundaries, integration patterns and architectural intent, using AI-assisted tools to explore solutions and validate design decisions before code is written.
  • Specification as a first-class craft - writing clear, testable intent and acceptance criteria that agents and humans can both act on.
  • Review and quality judgement - evaluating AI-generated work for correctness, security and design fit, rather than typing every line yourself.
  • Orchestration - composing and supervising AI capabilities and agentic workflows inside governed pipelines with clear quality gates.
  • Raising the team, not just yourself - turning good individual practice into shared, reusable capability so the whole team gets faster, not just one person.
  • Learning and adaptation - staying current with emerging AI capabilities and engineering practices, helping the team identify, adopt and govern new ways of working that improve delivery and outcomes.
Qualifications
What you’ll bring
Core engineering
  • Solid full-stack development experience across modern front-end and back-end technologies, with cloud/SaaS exposure.
  • Strong grasp of software design, testing and quality fundamentals - you know what good looks like and can articulate why.
  • Comfortable working in Agile/scrum teams and collaborating closely with Product.
AI fluency
  • Hands‑on experience using AI coding assistants or agentic tools in real delivery - and, more importantly, good judgement about when to trust, correct or override them.
  • Able to write clear specifications and prompts, and to critically review AI-generated code for correctness, security and maintainability.
  • Curious and self-directed about emerging AI engineering practice - you actively experiment rather than wait to be trained. (Specific tools matter less than the fluency and judgement; the toolchain will keep changing.)
Mindset
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and change - you can do valuable work today while the operating model around you is still forming.
  • Passion for complex problem solving, as well as statistics and algorithm development
  • T-shaped: deep enough to be trusted, broad enough to move across the lifecycle as roles blur.
  • Sees reviewing and specifying as real engineering and an opportunity to deliver even more value, not a step down from writing code.
  • A growth mindset and a bias to improve the system, not just complete the ticket.
  • General knowledge of the insurance industry and degree level education in a relevant discipline is highly desirable but not essential.
