Job summary

Elsevier is seeking a web-focused software developer to join a dynamic Agile team building a cloud-hosted peer review system. You will translate complex requirements into robust, scalable features, contribute to code that powers scientific discovery, and participate in architecture discussions.

You’ll work with product, QA, and DevOps to deliver user-friendly solutions, practice test-driven development, and evolve engineering practices in a fast-moving environment.

Qualifications

• Experience with version control systems (Git).
• Ability to collaborate with team members to create innovative solutions.
• Proficiency with a modern IDE (VSCode or IntelliJ) and refactoring tools.
• Willingness to discuss and improve team practices.
• Experience with test-driven development and mocking libraries (Jest, Mockito).
• Familiarity with collaborative documentation tools (Jira and Confluence).
• Knowledge of Agile practices (Scrum, Kanban).
• Interest in learning or working with AI-based solutions.

About Role:

This position performs moderately difficult research, design, and software development assignments within a specific software functional area or product line. The successful candidate will have the ability to work on individual pieces of work and solve problems, including the design of the program flow of separate pieces of code, effective coding, and unit testing

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, test, and deploy applications in a cloud-hosted distributed system.
• Contribute to architectural discussions and decisions to ensure stability, scalability, and performance.
• Identify and implement improvements to engineering practices and the delivery pipeline to increase quality and speed.
• Collaborate with a cross-functional Agile team (engineering, product, QA, DevOps) to deliver positive business outcomes.
• Work with business stakeholders to clarify requirements, iterate on feedback, and deliver user-focused solutions in a fast-moving environment.

Requirements:

• Display some experience with version control system (i.e. git)
• Enjoy collaborating with team members to create innovative solutions
• Have experience with a modern IDE (IntelliJ / VSCode) and proficiency in using the refactoring tools
• Be open to discussing and honing approaches for our team to improve our working practices
