Job summary

evoke is seeking a capable Java Developer to join our Retail Tech team in the UK. You will help integrate in-store technology with online experiences across the 1400+ William Hill shops, updating platforms and ensuring customers have cutting-edge tech.

You will collaborate with Developers, Testers, and Solution Architects to implement solutions, manage technical debt, and promote best practices in a multi-team environment. Hybrid working and strong engineering standards are expected.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Java Developer.
• Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript languages, ideally React/Node.
• Experience with Scrum/Kanban frameworks.
• Broad knowledge of web software development topics.
• Working knowledge of best engineering practices (SOLID).
• Experience working in a multi-team environment with dependencies.

Responsibilities

• Implement and document solutions in collaboration with Developers, Testers and Solution Architects.
• Maintain software integrity and manage technical debt with Site Reliability teams.
• Promote best practices and ensure adherence to guardrails and standards.
• Collaborate on technical requirements with Product Owners.
• Coordinate delivery with Delivery Managers.
• Engage in pair programming and code reviews with constructive feedback.
• Coordinate with QA to ensure tests align with the solution.
• Support CI and release pipelines and organize releases.

Our Retail Team are responsible for all aspects of William Hill’s in store technology, with a particular focus on integrating the online experience for our customers into our 1400+ retail shops in the UK. Your role is to keep our colleagues and customers connected, updating our existing platform and systems while ensuring our customers have cutting edge technology at their fingertips.

What you will be doing

• Implementation and documentation of solutions in collaboration with Developers, Testers and Solution Architects
• Responsibility for the integrity of the software, ensuring technical debt is managed effectively in collaboration with Site Reliability teams
• Support turning guardrails into best practices and standards, and ensure adherence
• Collaborating on non-technical and technical requirements with Product Owners
• Collaborating on delivery with Delivery Managers
• Pair Programming and/or Reviewing code and providing constructive feedback
• Collaborating with QA to ensure tests are aligned with the solution and complement tests written by development
• Support for CI & release pipeline being set up for all applications delivered. Organise & execute releases

Who We Are Looking For

• Experience as a Java Developer
