Job description

We are seeking a talented and experienced full-stack developer to join and grow with our team.

We are a long-established business working with some of the best food and drink businesses, such as Carlsberg, Britvic and Mondelez. You will have the opportunity to make your mark from the start on challenging but rewarding projects, many of which are mission-critical to our customers.

Our platform is AWS for pretty much everything, and Google for office tools - the only Windows will be on your development machine. We work with unusually large datasets and our systems have to deliver outputs extremely quickly, so ‘optimisation’ is an over-worked word at Conker.

You will mainly be adding new features and functionality to our core systems but we will be very open to your input on the bigger picture - as a small team we collaborate as much as possible on all aspects of our work.

We have already begun using LLMs in a number of areas and this will naturally extend to pretty much all areas of the business. You’ll be working with these at some point although not necessarily from day one - other than, for example, Cursor.

We are a distributed team and to help with ‘bonding’ we meet up in full four times a year, staying one or two nights - recent venues have included Manchester and Berlin.

What are we looking for?

You will have a Bachelor or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject. You probably have a side-hustle, although that’s purely optional!

Boxes to tick:

  • Multi-year PHP development experience

  • Knowledge of best Git practice (we use BitBucket)

  • Good knowledge of relational databases (we use MySQL/Maria DB, Amazon Redshift) and of developing web services

  • You’ve worked with, and ideally developed, APIs

  • Experience in common third-party APIs (we use AWS, Google Maps)

  • Passion for best design and coding practices and a desire to develop new bold ideas

  • In-depth knowledge of web technologies including HTML, CSS, Javascript, AJAX.

Bonus points:

  • Understanding of open source projects

  • React, Redux (Typescript) & Next.js

  • Vanilla Javascript, CSS (tailwind & SCSS) skills

  • LLMs

  • Python

  • AWS

  • Selenium

  • Chef

  • Vagrant

  • Highcharts

  • Cursor

Who we think you might be

  • Someone who takes pleasure in writing clean, re-usable, code and who really cares when it doesn’t work as intended

  • Capable of working under pressure when there is a looming deadline - although you know your limits and will always take breaks to clear your head

  • A creative problem-solver, with the ability to analyse complex technical problems and provide effective solutions, often by trying something new

  • Someone with good communication skills - you don’t resist the need to comment and document

  • Proactive in staying updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices

  • A good team player with GSOH

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary £50,000 + according to experience / skill

  • Pension, Income Replacement Insurance, Life Assurance

  • Gym/Fitness allowance

  • Never work on your birthday!

  • Remote-first company

  • Parental Benefits

  • Online and real world socials

Other details:

  • Company: Conker Cloud Innovations Ltd

  • Vacancy Type: full-time (39 hours)

  • Job Location: remote role with some time each month at our Nottingham office
