Overview

Full Stack Developer – London – £35k-£42k per year. Contract/Full Time. Posted by: National Biodiversity Network Trust. Posted: Thursday, 11 September 2025.

Applicants must be eligible to work in the UK.

Location: Working from home, with occasional travel. Contract: Fixed term to 31st March 2026, with possibility of extension. Secondments and sabbaticals welcomed. Hours: 35 hours per week. Flexible working available (compressed hours or part-time considered for the right candidate, minimum 30 hours per week). Closing date: None, recruitment is open until the post is filled. About the role

The NBN Trust is the UK charity dedicated to making data work for nature. We are seeking a Full Stack Developer to join our Development Team. You will work with colleagues on the NBN Atlas – the UK biodiversity data portal – a valued source of information for nature conservation. You will report to our Lead Developer.

This is an exciting time to be involved in biodiversity data. Our NBN Atlas brings together wildlife data from 220 nature organisations across the UK and makes it accessible to all.

Responsibilities
  • Implement a programme of enhancements and improvements to the NBN Atlas.
  • Develop internal applications and services to enhance operational efficiency and support the NBN Atlas team.
  • Improve the NBN Atlas code base.
  • Support and collaborate with the wider NBN Trust team in line with our values.

In this role you would report to the Lead Developer and work on a variety of projects with a polyglot tech stack.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Object Oriented Programming
  • MVC frameworks (ideally Java EE/Spring/Grails; would consider .NET)
  • REST Web Services
  • ORM such as Hibernate
  • Working knowledge of Linux
  • MySQL or PostgreSQL
  • JavaScript, jQuery, CSS

You should be comfortable working on complex, sometimes undocumented code and able to take initiative while collaborating with a team.
