Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Registered Veterinary Nurse to join a highly skilled team on a fixed-term contract from May 2025 to August 2026. The role is based in a beautiful Georgian riverside market town of Blandford Forum in Dorset, offering a perfect blend of rural charm and urban amenities.

The Practice:

  • The practice is an RCVS accredited clinic, boasting nearly a century of service to the community.
  • With a team of 11 RVNs, 2 students, 2 ANAs, and 9 SA vets, the clinic is fully equipped to provide the highest standards of care.
  • The team enjoys regular activities, fostering a supportive and enjoyable work environment.

The Role:

  • The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing high-quality care to animals while assisting veterinarians in clinical procedures.
  • The role requires a blend of technical skills and a genuine love for animals. In this full-time role, the candidate will work 2 weeknights and 2 split weekends in an 11-week rota, with time off in lieu incorporated.
  • The practice is committed to professional development, offering a generous CPD allowance and opportunities to teach SVN’s for clinical coaches.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist veterinary surgeons during examinations, surgeries, and other medical procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies for diagnostic tests.
  • Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments as directed by the veterinary surgeon.
  • Monitor the health and behaviour of animals pre- and post-surgery.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and documentation for each patient.
  • Provide support to pet owners by explaining treatment plans and answering questions.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organisation of the clinic, including sterilisation of instruments.
  • Participate in the training of student veterinary nurses as required.

Key Requirements:

  • RCVS registered.
  • Strong laboratory skills, including familiarity with diagnostic testing procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • A compassionate attitude towards animals and their owners.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.
  • A competitive salary starting from £27,000 per annum, depending on experience.
  • 6 weeks' paid holiday including bank holidays.
  • £600.00 CPD Allowance per annum.
