Job summary

Waste Investigations Support & Enforcement (WISE) is recruiting Environmental Enforcement Officers for full-time, on-site work in Luton. The role involves foot patrols to identify environmental offences and issue Fixed Penalty Notices, with an emphasis on outdoor engagement and public interaction.

Qualifications

• Strong communication skills and a confident, professional manner.
• Resilience and the ability to handle challenging conversations calmly.
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Basic IT skills (report writing).
• Reliable, proactive and detail-focused.
• Ability to work independently and follow procedures. Driving licence is preferred but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Start your day on foot patrol across busy town centres and residential streets.
• Observe public behaviour and identify offences such as littering, dog fouling and fly-tipping.
• Approach offenders confidently to explain offences and issue Fixed Penalty Notices.
• Educate the public on environmental responsibilities.
• Accurately record evidence, statements and reports using provided systems.
• Work independently while supported by a wider enforcement team.
