Google DeepMind is hiring a Research Scientist to lead governance research and risk modeling for the Frontier Safety Framework (FSF). You will drive research, develop risk models, and advance governance integration across internal teams and model launch processes.

You will manage a team of researchers, perform qualitative and quantitative risk assessments, and contribute to external safety reports while collaborating with policy and governance groups.

Qualifications

• PhD in Economics, Philosophy, or STEM or equivalent practical experience.
• 3 years of research in frontier AI safety or governance (risk modeling, safety frameworks, or alignment evaluations).

Responsabilités

• Develop FSF research and updates to adapt to changing safety, governance, and policy opportunities.
• Model pre-mitigation risks to ground empirical risk assessment and define FSF thresholds.
• Assess safeguards and deployment readiness with cross-functional teams.
• Lead a team of researchers and represent the risk assessment program in governance.
• Write external safety reports and collaborate with policy teams to strengthen frontier AI governance.
