Job description

We are looking for a FrontEnd Developer to join a team working for our UK-based client – the national mapping agency for Great Britain and a global leader in geospatial data and digital mapping solutions. You will be part of a project focused on building a comprehensive digital map of underground assets in the UK, contributing to the development of data pipelines, backend services, and a frontend application that support critical decision-making across government and industry.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong frontend background who is also passionate about geospatial technologies. You will help build an intuitive, responsive, and accessible web application with embedded interactive maps, advanced spatial tools, and integration with spatial data services.

Requirements:

• Solid development experience with JavaScript and React
• Proven track record delivering complex, high-quality web applications
• Strong experience in building component-based UIs with modern React patterns (hooks, context, etc.)
• Experience working with map rendering libraries (e.g. Leaflet, Mapbox, OpenLayers) and web mapping APIs
• Understanding of spatial data formats (e.g. GeoJSON, WKT, Shapefile) and coordinate systems
• Experience integrating frontend with geospatial services (e.g. WMS, WFS, REST APIs)
• Ability to design intuitive interactions with map layers, geolocation, drawing tools, filters, and spatial search
• Strong focus on performance optimization and responsiveness of map components
• Knowledge of accessibility and usability best practices
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams
• Bonus: familiarity with spatial databases (e.g. PostGIS) or frontend testing of map interfaces

Contract details:

• Start Date: September 2025
• Contract Length: 18 months
• Security Clearance Certificate: mandatory
• Eligibility to work in the UK:mandatory

Location:

Remote from the UK, with potential business trips to Southampton every 4–6 weeks.
