Job summary

McGregor Boyall is recruiting a VP‑level C# Software Engineer for a leading global investment bank in London. This hands-on role demands technical ownership of front office securities financing platforms and modernisation of applications using C#, .NET Core, AWS, Kafka and Redis.

You will design, develop and deliver complex enterprise solutions, collaborating with global teams across London, New York and Asia, while guiding architecture decisions and engineering best practices.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial software engineering using C# and .NET
• Experience delivering complex enterprise applications in banking or capital markets
• Knowledge of Securities Lending, Stock Loan, Securities Financing or Equity Swaps
• Ownership of technical architecture and delivery
• Understanding of OO design, data structures, algorithms and software engineering principles

The Opportunity

We are working with a leading global investment bank seeking an experienced VP-level C# Software Engineer to join its Front Office Securities Financing Technology function in London.

This is an opportunity to take technical ownership within a global engineering team responsible for developing and supporting business‑critical trading platforms.

The organisation is investing significantly in its technology capabilities, evolving from a predominantly Microsoft‑based environment towards a modern, cloud‑enabled architecture incorporating C#, .NET Core, Java, AWS, Kafka and Redis.

The successful candidate will combine strong hands‑on engineering expertise with the ability to independently design, architect and deliver complex software solutions supporting global trading operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and enhance high‑performance C#/.NET applications supporting front office trading and securities financing activities.

Essential Experience

• Strong commercial software engineering experience using C# and .NET, with excellent programming fundamentals.
• Proven experience designing and delivering complex enterprise applications within investment banking or capital markets.
• Knowledge of Securities Lending, Stock Loan, Securities Financing, Equity Financing or Equity Swaps.
• Demonstrable experience taking ownership of technical architecture and delivering substantial projects independently.
• Strong understanding of object‑oriented design, data structures, algorithms and software engineering principles.
• Experience working with relational databases such as SQL Server or MySQL.
• Ability to articulate architectural decisions, evaluate technical trade‑offs and solve complex engineering challenges.

Desirable Experience

• AWS or another major cloud platform, ideally involving application modernisation or cloud‑native development.
• Modern .NET / .NET Core.
• Java development experience alongside C#.
• Distributed systems, Kafka, Redis or event‑driven architectures.
• Experience developing applications supporting OTC derivatives or complex trade lifecycle processing.
• Practical experience using AI‑assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude.

What We’re Looking For

We are particularly interested in engineers who operate beyond simply delivering assigned development tasks.

You will be comfortable taking a business requirement, defining the technical solution, making architectural decisions and owning delivery through to production.

This is a hands‑on technical position, suited to an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and taking genuine responsibility for the systems they build.

Candidates with a strong Java background and previous substantial C# experience will also be considered.
