Job description

The Peace Museum is recruiting x2 friendly and motivated Interpretation Guides to be the public face of the gallery on Saturdays & Sundays.

Inspired by Bradford '25 City of Culture, and the 25th anniversary of Greenham Common being returned to community ownership, our new exhibition - InCommon - will celebrate the Greenham Women's Peace Camp which ran for 20 years from the 1980's and the themes of peaceful activism, and women's peace movements.

The Peace Museum in Bradford is the only museum in the UK dedicated to the histories and stories of peace, peacemakers and peace movements.

As the first point of contact for our visitors to the gallery & exhibition, you will enjoy meeting, greeting, and assisting everyone whilst helping the public have an accessible, safe, and enjoyable experience.

Role Duties

  • Actively welcoming and engaging with every visitor to The Peace Museum.
  • Responding to enquiries in an approachable and personalised manner.
  • Ability to talk about exhibitions and the history of the Greenham Women's Peace Camp (training will be given).
  • Ensuring public spaces are clean, tidy and presented to a high standard.
  • Overseeing the safety of objects in the gallery space.
  • Conducting visitor surveys.
  • Running the shop, handling payments and providing a high level of customer service.
  • Assisting with the set up and running of events.
  • Adhering to Health and Safety guidelines, assisting visitors with access needs, and aiding the public during evacuation procedures.
  • Supporting colleagues with occasional general tasks, as required.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Punctual.
  • Positive personality with proactive communication skills.
  • Interest in contemporary visual arts and/or photography.
  • Flexibility within your job role.

Desirable

  • Experience working in a visitor, public or customer-facing role.
  • Experience working at events.
  • Experience working with volunteers

Work Information

  • Pay is £12.60 per hour, paid monthly in arrears (Real Living Wage) + holiday pay.
  • 7-hour shifts with a 30-minute unpaid break.
  • Dress code is smart casual.
  • We are looking for x2 FOH Interpretation Guides to work from 31 May to 14 September 2025. The roles may be extended beyond September 2025, subject to successful funding income.
