Job Description:

Summary:

Imagine transforming the stressful process of moving home into a seamless, tech-powered experience – this is what we do at Just Move In. We’re an early-stage B-corp, backed by leading VC's. We are on a mission to simplify moving, home services setup (broadband, energy, insurance, council tax, change of address, furniture, home improvements, and an ever-growing list), and managing your home and financial services; by building an AI-native, omni-channel home partner that doesn’t just assist in moving but anticipates, manages, and completes the myriad of tasks for home and life, so the user can focus on living, not admin.

We believe AI and great design are the keys to building a step-change customer experience. We’re looking for a Lead/Senior Front-End Engineer to lead the charge in crafting a beautiful, scalable web/app interface (and more) that brings our AI-driven admin automation and e-commerce services to life. If you are equal parts engineer and designer – someone who can take an idea from a Figma mockup to a polished, responsive application – and you thrive on ownership, we want to talk to you. This is a unique opportunity to own the front-end and design system at a company where your work will define how millions of people transition and manage their new homes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Front-End Development & Architecture: Architect and build the front-end of Just Move In’s platform from the ground up. You will own our front-end technical stack and UI architecture, ensuring it’s robust, modular, and scalable as we rapidly grow. This includes establishing a maintainable codebase (using modern frameworks like React/TypeScript) and setting standards for performance, security, and accessibility.
  • Design System Ownership: Create and maintain our design system in both Figma and code. You’ll build a library of reusable components (styles, UI elements, interactions) that ensure consistency and delight across our product. As the bridge between design and engineering, you’ll work closely with our UX designer (and often act as a designer yourself) to define the look-and-feel, from typography and color palettes to animations and micro-interactions.
  • Build Beautiful, AI-Powered User Experiences: Implement end-to-end features that integrate our AI capabilities into a seamless UI. For example, you might develop an interactive dashboard that uses an LLM to provide moving advice, or a chat-style interface on our website/WhatsApp that guides users through setting up utilities. You will translate complex AI outputs into intuitive, understandable visuals and workflows. The goal: make advanced AI features feel simple and magical to users.
  • Collaborative Product Development: Work hand-in-hand with product managers, back-end/AI engineers, and the customer success team to shape features from concept to launch. You’ll participate in product brainstorming, user research sessions, and design reviews – ensuring that what we build is not only feasible but also the best in class. You will advocate for the user at every step, making sure our application is not just powerful, but also a joy to use.
  • Quality, Performance, and Testing: Take responsibility for the quality of the front-end codebase. You will implement best practices for performance optimization (keeping our app fast and lightweight) and ensure accessibility standards (WCAG) are met so all users can use our service. You’ll set up appropriate testing (unit and E2E tests) and monitoring, and perform code reviews for any front-end changes (and likely build a team around these practices as we grow).
  • Mentorship and Leadership: As one of the early senior engineers, you’ll help shape our engineering culture. You will mentor junior engineers or contractors, share knowledge on front-end technologies, and lead by example in problem-solving and code craftsmanship.

What We’re Looking For (Qualifications):

  • 5+ years of experience in front-end or full-stack development, with a track record of building beautiful, responsive web applications that users love. You’ve ideally led or significantly contributed to front-end architecture/design decisions in a product-driven environment.
  • Eye for Design: Exceptional UI/UX instincts – you sweat the details of padding, font, and motion. Proficient with design tools like Figma, and comfortable iterating on a design yourself when needed. (Perhaps you’ve been called a “design engineer” or “creative engineer” before.) You can show us examples of interfaces you’ve built that are both visually polished and highly usable.
  • Design Systems & Component Libraries: Hands-on experience building or maintaining a design system or extensive component library. You understand principles of consistency, theming, and scalability in design. You can set up a UI toolkit that accelerates development while preserving design quality.
  • AI and API Integration: Curiosity or experience with AI/ML products. While you don’t need to be an AI expert, you should be excited to work with APIs for AI services (e.g., OpenAI/Anthropic/ Elevenlabs APIs, embeddings, etc.) and capable of integrating back-end AI outputs into the UI. Experience with data visualization or presenting complex data in user-friendly ways is a plus.
  • User-Centric & Product Mindset: You think from the end-user’s perspective and have a knack for turning big ideas into pragmatic, ship-ready features. You care about the impact of your work – your ideal day is seeing a feature you built make a customer’s life easier. If you’ve done user testing or gathered feedback on your features before, that’s great to mention.
  • Startup Mentality: You thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous startup environment. You’re a self-starter who takes ownership of problems and drives them to completion. When things change or a new challenge arises, you see opportunity: whether that means learning a new skill, adopting a new tool, or proposing a creative solution. You’re comfortable wearing multiple hats and jumping in wherever needed to help the team.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Excellent teamwork and communication skills. You can work closely with cross-functional colleagues – translating technical possibilities to non-technical folks and vice versa. You’re open to feedback and enjoy brainstorming in a group. Importantly, you can articulate design rationale and technical trade-offs clearly.

Why Join Just Move In?

At Just Move In, you’ll join a passionate and talented team intent on redefining an outdated industry. As our first specialist in front-end and design engineering, your fingerprints will be all over a product that directly improves people’s lives during a major life event. You’ll have unparalleled ownership and room for creativity in building something truly novel (we believe we’re among the first to bring this level of AI to home moving). We’re backed by prominent investors and are growing fast, but still at a size where every team member’s contribution is visible and critical. We offer competitive compensation (including stock options) and the chance to grow your role as the company scales.

Join us in making moving home a delightful, stress-free experience through great tech and design. If this sounds like your dream role, we’d love to hear from you!
