Overview
A teacher is responsible for planning and delivering lessons, assessing student progress, managing the classroom, and supporting individual student needs. They communicate with parents and school staff and engage in professional development to stay current with educational practices. Overall, teachers inspire and motivate students to achieve their full potential and complete the IB programme effectively.
General
- Our teachers are the essence of the work of the School. Each teacher is responsible for the education of the students in his/her classes, ensuring that the learning environment is lively, welcoming, and authentic.
- Our teachers ensure that all students are safe, secure, and properly supervised at all times.
- We work collegially with our Departmental Teams to support the school’s vision, mission, and philosophy; support the school’s curricular and philosophical commitments as an IB World School; and assist the team in meeting its planning goals.
- We effectively plan and teach classes according to the timetable and appropriate programmes of study, catering for personalised learning and differentiation for all levels of student ability.
- Our teachers engage in both internal and external professional development opportunities, contributing to teaching and learning practices across School programmes.
- Our teachers value the cultural identity of each member of our community and invoke passion in learning.
Accountability
- Assume responsibility for the effective delivery of the agreed curriculum to the students in classes.
- Be responsible for the aims and curriculum of the area in which they teach.
- Be committed to the appraisal process that encompasses expectations of teachers regarding their teaching and professional practices.
- Maintain vertical scope and sequence programmes and planning records using ManageBac.
- In case of planned absence, leave work for students with your Head of Department and communicate accordingly with the Cover Manager.
- Attend all internal professional development days and sessions punctually.
- Take attendance at the start of each lesson and be available as designated on the sub/cover rota and for assigned duties.
- Maintain inventories of all textbooks and resources, including those issued to students, ensuring their return and making recommendations for new resources.
- Lead an after-school club for one term per year (Full time only).
- Organise extra-curricular activities linked to the curriculum.
- If assigned as a tutor, adhere to the tutor guidelines provided.
Academic Quality
- Develop course content aligned with the school's philosophy, objectives, and IB programmes.
- Select educational experiences suitable for each student, considering skills, content, and concepts, in line with the school's philosophy and curriculum.
- Assist the relevant Coordinator and/or Department Lead with curriculum development.
- Ensure students understand the course content and assessment criteria at the start of each course/unit, providing syllabi and assessment information.
- Set and mark formative and summative assessments promptly.
- Provide timely, constructive formative feedback and produce student reports for parents as scheduled, attending all Parent-Teacher Conferences.
- Maintain ongoing records of student work and progress via Managebac.
- Assign and mark differentiated homework timely, adhering to policies, and accommodate requests during absences.
- Ensure IB internal assessments comply with IB requirements and are uploaded to IBIS as needed.
Community
- Ensure the curriculum provides a safe, supportive environment for all community members.
- Work collaboratively to foster a thriving, dynamic, and culturally respectful academic culture.
Communication
- Inform the Pastoral Team and tutors about student absences, lateness, and behavioral concerns.
- Keep the Department Lead and Secondary Leadership Team informed of academic and teaching matters.
- Be an active, professional member of the teaching team.
Teaching qualification and experience:
- Degree and teaching qualification.
- Relevant subject teaching experience.
- IB teaching experience is advantageous but not required.
- Ability to adapt curriculum and work interdisciplinarily.
Care & Guidance
Be familiar with the School’s Child Protection Policy and report concerns to the designated Child Protection Officer. Ensure all educational practices align with health and safety policies. Safeguarding and promoting children's welfare is everyone's responsibility; approach should always be child-centered. Employees may be asked to undertake additional tasks as directed by the School Principal or a delegate.
