Job description

Freighter & Marine Engineer – London

Navis Consulting has an opening for a Freighter and Marine Engineer to join a large submarine telecommunications company based in London.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage freighter mobilization and transfer operations worldwide for telecommunications cables and submerged equipment.
  • Design cable storage and handling equipment.
  • Oversee fabrication, commissioning, and maintenance of cable handling systems.
  • Supervise teams, ensure QHSE standards, and control costs for freighter and depot operations.
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers and vessel crews.
Desired Education, Training, and Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of Marine Engineering and general onboard ship systems, including machinery and hydraulics.
  • Basic understanding of vessel stability calculations, steel work, and CAD.
  • Overview of materials used in marine engineering.
  • Basic electrical engineering principles, including DC and AC circuit theory, and electrical power systems.
  • Fundamentals of engineering mathematics, including differential equations.
  • Knowledge of lifting, slings, offshore safety, and shipping qualifications.
  • Experience with vessel itinerary planning, ISPS code, port operations, and dealing with regulatory authorities.
  • Proficiency in computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic MCA certification.
