Job summary

OLG Recruitment is seeking a Freight Forwarding Assistant for a permanent role based in Immingham. The position supports the smooth operation of freight forwarding activities across import/export, with emphasis on effective communication and problem solving.

Ideal candidates will have knowledge of customs formalities and be able to negotiate with shipping lines and hauliers, using Destin8, Excel, and Word to manage documentation and data. The role is Monday to Friday in a permanent capacity.

Qualifications

• Experience with import/export customs formalities in the UK and abroad.
• Ability to communicate across levels and departments.
• Strong problem-solving and proactive approach to freight issues.

Responsibilities

• Assist with and oversee the smooth running of the company’s freight forwarding activities.
• Coordinate and communicate with customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
• Negotiate rates with shipping lines and hauliers to secure best value.
• Develop and maintain high service levels for customers.
• Work independently or within a team to resolve freight issues quickly.

OLG Recruitment are currently looking for a Freight Forwarding Assistant for our client located in Immingham, This is a permanent opportunity working Monday to Friday.

As a Freight Forwarding assistant you will be required toassist with and oversee the smooth and efficient running of the company's freight forwarding activities on behalf of our owners and parent company.

The ideal candidate:

• Conversant in Import and Export Customs formalities both in the UK and abroad inclusive of customs entries both import and export. An understanding of Destin8 would be an advantage.

• Have a good understanding for the various shipping lines serving the Iberian, Italian, Benelux and Chinese markets.

• Have a good understanding of road freight operations within the EU.

• Have a good understanding of what is required as a Freight Forwarder and how we can stand out against the competition.

• Be an effective negotiator for the various parts of the logistics chain, especially towards rate negotiations with shipping lines and hauliers.

• Be able to work on their own or within a group / team environment.

• Be proactive in problem solving with an ability to think outside the box.

• Be able to communicate to all levels.

• Have a good understanding of excel and micro-soft word.

• Be able to develop best in class operational and service levels towards our customers.
