SILA Linguists invites freelance Ukrainian interpreters and translators to join our UK network. You will support healthcare, education, housing, employment and legal assignments, delivering interpretation and written translations with strict confidentiality.

Roles may be remote by video or telephone or on-site at client premises. You will handle sensitive material, build sector glossaries, and contribute to a diverse range of projects across public services.

Qualifications

• Excellent Ukrainian and English skills with register-switch ability.
• Diploma in Public Service Interpreting or Police Interpreting is an advantage.
• CIOL/ITI membership is welcome.

Responsabilités

We are recruiting freelance Ukrainian interpreters and translators for healthcare, education, housing, employment and legal assignments. Ukrainian speakers need support in many areas of daily life.

Many Ukrainian families have arrived in the UK in recent years and need interpreters for health, housing, schools, work and legal matters. Many Ukrainian clients also speak Russian, but language preference can be a sensitive matter, and clients should always be offered Ukrainian first.

Assignments include GP and hospital care, school admissions, housing and benefits, employment, mental health support and legal matters. Translators work on Ukrainian identity, education and medical documents.

Responsibilities

• Interpret for Ukrainian clients in health, housing, education and employment settings.
• Translate Ukrainian identity, education and medical documents for UK services and employers.
• Keep everything you hear and read on assignments strictly confidential, and remain impartial throughout.
• Build and maintain your own glossaries for the sectors you work in.
• Deliver written translations that are accurate, complete and proofread, on or before the agreed deadline.
• Work remotely by video or telephone, or on site at the client's premises, arriving prepared and on time.
• Produce accurate transcripts and English translations of recorded Ukrainian speech, for example police interviews or research recordings.

Requirements

• Excellent spoken and written Ukrainian and English, with the ability to switch register for different clients.
• The DPSI (Diploma in Public Service Interpreting), DPI (Diploma in Police Interpreting) or an equivalent qualification is an advantage; CIOL or ITI membership is welcome.
• Russian is an advantage, but Ukrainian interpreting must be offered in Ukrainian.
• Willingness to complete a DBS check for assignments in healthcare, education or with vulnerable people.
• Right to work in the UK if you will take on-site assignments in the UK.
• A reliable internet connection, headset and quiet, private workspace for remote assignments.
