Job description

The award-winning Lockerley Estate is seeking more freelance growers to join the team at their Veg Shed in East Tytherley (near Salisbury).
This is the perfect opportunity for a freelance gardener and food grower to add to their portfolio of work, with a 6-month contract from now until the end of October. Immediate start available.

The role includes:

1. Growing food (using organic and no-dig methods) to supply veg boxes and select retail.
2. Tending crops in raised beds, hedges, polytunnels, and other productive areas.
3. Maintaining healthy soils using mulches, liquid fertilisers, and green manures.
4. Harvesting produce and preparing it for sale.
5. Packing veg boxes for deliveries, observing food hygiene standards, liaising with other team members to plan supply and meet demand.

Growers need to have:

1. Experience growing food commercially (even on a small scale).
2. An empathy with organic principles (and ideally experience growing organically and an understanding of soil health).
3. A flexible, positive, muck-in attitude to work and willingness to perform a variety of jobs.
4. Self-motivation and ability to work alone but also be a positive team player.
5. Resilience to work outside in all weathers and do physical work on the plot safely.
6. The right to work in the UK and be able to communicate in English.
7. A driving licence which is recognised in the UK.
8. Ability to commit to around 20 hours a week (service level to be agreed between Monday to Saturday) but MUST be able to be at the plot on Wednesday morning.
