Description

As a freelance Market Manager, you’ll be the on-the-ground coordinator, overseeing the daily operation of KERB’s exciting new Saturday market street food and produce market on Francis Road, Leyton. The role involves management of the market to allow it to run seamlessly, ensuring all traders arrive and set up on site correctly and that all health and safety practices are implemented throughout.

You’ll work closely with a range of on-site partners, including traders and the community to ensure the market runs smoothly, safely, and vibrantly. You’ll have a proactive approach to problem-solving and a knack for building strong relationships with vendors and customers alike.

The role suits someone hungry to get involved with KERB+, with a keen eye for detail, good communication skills, understanding of health & safety principles, and previous experience of working with a diverse and lengthy range of stakeholders.

A grasp of street food, produce, and previous market experience is a big plus. We need a can-do character with the hunger and expertise to push the market to its full potential.

Please note, this role may involve labour-intensive physical tasks.

What you'll be doing

  • Responsibility for the day-to-day operational management of a Saturday street food and produce market
  • Ensure all health and safety practices are followed on the market and work with the Markets Team to ensure all recommended practices are adhered to
  • Managing the on-site load-in and load-out of multiple traders across street food and produce
  • Customer engagement – being the voice and face of KERB+ on the ground
  • Focusing on the customer experience and developing ways to enhance this
  • Liaising with all of our traders on-site and ensuring that their setups are up to standard
  • Reporting on compliance issues before, during, and after the market
  • Undertaking relevant administrative tasks on the market day

What you'll bring to KERB

  • Background in Hospitality
Desired but not essential
  • History and experience in street food
  • History and experience in produce markets e.g. farmers markets
  • Understanding of health and safety standards and/or relevant operational experience for effective market management
  • Knowledge of electricity, gas, and foodservice operations
  • Strong people management skills, working with a wide range of stakeholders to deliver the best outcome for KERB+ and its traders
  • Proactive/self-starter able to focus and operate in a free-style work environment
  • Excellent people skills, confident talking to customers and traders and developing long-term relationships
  • An interest and understanding of the food scene and the role food plays in the London market
  • Positive and flexible attitude, with the ability to think laterally and willing to problem-solve
  • Food/Health and Safety (Level 2) and Banksman training are a plus!
