Job description

Bred 4 Sports is an Australian digital equine sports magazine based in Australia but covers stories worldwide.

Role Description

This is a contract remote role for a Freelance Journalist at Bred 4 Sports in Melbourne, VIC, and Sydney, NSW. The Freelance Journalist will be responsible for writing articles for magazine content and attending some VIC and interstate horse racing meetings.

We have multiple roles based per project depending on the availability and location of the Journalist.

Qualifications

  • Excellent writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and on-site
  • Must have recently graduated (last 2 years) from an equine-related field either in a Diploma in Equine Studies OR from Thoroughbred Breeders Australia (TBA), an RTO-based organization, college, or university.
  • Certificate IV, Diploma, or Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field is highly regarded; however, it is not essential for those wanting to work within the field of journalism or studying to obtain this qualification.

Must Possess and Non-Negotiable

  • Experience with social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
  • Tech-savvy with smartphones, computers, and technology gadgets.
  • Confidence on screen to interview in podcast or video format.
  • Ability to learn new platforms.
  • Must be able to work independently or within a team environment with a "team" attitude.
  • A high degree of professionalism as you will be working alongside horses.
  • A high degree of integrity as you will be reporting and writing about horses.
  • Have empathy as you will be working with different parts within the equine industry and different groups, with the attitude that "horses come first".
  • Ability to travel interstate or internationally if required with the team.
  • Highly motivated.
