Job description

Freelance Audiobook Editor – Longform Narrative / ACX-Standard

Location: Remote (UK only) / Nottingham-based applicants welcome

Contract Type: Freelance

Start Date: Ongoing

Rate: Competitive, based on experience and project scope

Apply To: audiobooks@koresounds.co.uk

Kore Sounds is an established post-production studio based in Nottingham, delivering high-quality audio for major publishers, production houses, and authors across the UK. We specialise in audiobook production, Dolby Atmos mixing, and voice recording — with a growing slate of longform projects in 2025 and beyond.

As our audiobook slate continues to grow, we’re expanding our freelance editor network. We’re now looking for highly skilled audiobook editors to support us across a range of titles — from fiction and memoir to drama and multi-narrator work.

This is not a single-project opportunity, but a chance to join our trusted network of collaborators for regular, ongoing work. Editors can work remotely, but if you’re based within reach of Nottingham, there may be opportunities for occasional in-studio sessions.

What we’re looking for

We’re seeking experienced editors who:

  • Have a strong track record in editing longform audio (preferably audiobooks, podcasts, or audio drama)
  • Understand ACX/Audible technical standards and consistently deliver to them
  • Are confident working with a full audiobook processing chain, including:
  • De-essing
  • De-clicking and mouth noise reduction
  • Breath control and pacing adjustments
  • Light EQ and compression if required
  • Know how to use AI-enhanced editing tools (such as RX, noise reduction AI plugins, or similar) efficiently, without sacrificing narrative accuracy or vocal authenticity
  • Deliver consistent, high-quality edits with minimal rework
  • Communicate clearly and can manage deadlines professionally

Quality control and expectations

All final QC and mastering is handled in-house at Kore Sounds, but all editing must meet our internal standards before handoff. We pride ourselves on delivering clean, engaging, and professionally finished audio — and we expect all freelance collaborators to uphold that same level of quality.

What you’ll be working on

  • Editing full-length audiobooks (typically 6–12 hours PFH)
  • Working closely with in-house producers and proofers to meet production briefs
  • Editing pickups and retakes from producer notes
  • Ensuring consistent tone, style and pacing across multi-session recordings
  • Occasionally working on drama, multi-voice or special-format titles

Why work with Kore Sounds?

  • Steady flow of titles with reputable publishers
  • In-house team support (producers, engineers, proofers)
  • Room to develop a long-term working relationship
  • Studio-led values: precision, storytelling, and craft
  • Competitive freelance rates

How to apply

To apply, please send the following to audiobooks@koresounds.co.uk:

  • A brief introduction about you and your experience
  • Links to recent audiobook projects (or samples)
  • Your editing software / tools / plugins used
  • Your standard availability and rates
  • Whether you’re based in Nottingham or work fully remote

We look forward to hearing from you — and thank you to everyone who has already helped us expand our narrator and editor network this year.
