Job description

Are you looking for a meaningful part-time role (22 ½ hours per week) where you can make a real difference? This is an exciting opportunity to join our team within the Audit & Risk Management Service, supporting our colleagues in the wider Finance Directorate and across the Council.

We are looking for a diligent and proactive Fraud Support Intelligence Officer to join the Counter Fraud Team at West Northamptonshire Council. In this key role, you will act as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) between the Council and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), ensuring effective communication and the timely exchange of information during welfare benefit fraud investigations. This is a great opportunity to contribute to the protection of public funds by supporting complex investigations and helping to maintain the integrity of our benefit systems.

What will you be doing?

You will support benefit fraud investigations by managing the information exchange between the Council and the DWP, ensuring accurate data is shared promptly. Your work will involve preparing evidence and formal statements for potential prosecutions, assessing fraud referrals, and identifying discrepancies through data matching. You’ll also assist with wider fraud enquiries across Council services, deliver awareness sessions, and provide statistical updates to support the team’s ongoing work.

About you

You will be detail-oriented, methodical, and confident in interpreting and presenting complex information. Your experience working with benefit systems, particularly Housing Benefit and Council Tax, will enable you to make informed decisions and provide high-quality support during investigations.

You’ll be comfortable producing formal written reports, liaising with investigators and colleagues, and presenting evidence in court when needed. As a strong communicator and team player, you’ll also have the initiative to work independently and contribute to wider fraud prevention efforts across the Council.

At West Northants Council, it’s about our people. People who thrive with ambition, bubble with new ideas, demand better ways of working, caring about every detail, and who never shy away from a challenge.
