Join our team and help us continue to bring people together to get the most out of life.

About the job

The Fraud Commercial Insight Analyst will support the Revenue Protection work to reduce fraudulent travel through various means, such as short ticketing, misuse of tickets, and railcard fraud.

The Fraud Commercial Insight Analyst will have access to multiple data sources and will be the main requisitioner of data from ticket suppliers with whom we have data sharing agreements.

The role will be integral in the investigation of potentially fraudulent activity across the network, leading to the successful reduction in that activity and an improvement in Revenue at Risk.

This is a key support role in fulfilling SWR's purpose by interpreting business data needs and returning rich and user-friendly data and reports that enable the rest of the business to operate faster and smarter when working on initiatives to bring people together to get the most out of life.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Conduct objective, fair, thorough, unbiased, and timely reviews of reports from frontline colleagues to determine if there are any suspicious activities.
  • Undertake analysis of data from various sources to detect suspicious activity.
  • Produce intelligence reports, and task Fraud Investigators to undertake further enquiries.
  • Write deployment plans for a team of frontline Robotic Process Automation (RPA) to be deployed across the network to tackle specific issues of fraudulent travel.
  • Be the subject matter expert in the analysis of various fraud types.
  • Support the Fraud Manager in reporting results of Short Ticketing investigation activities for periodic and quarterly reporting to stakeholders.
  • Support the Fraud Manager in developing a high standard of analytics, using a range of different tools.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of loss prevention or revenue protection methods, and relevant laws and legal procedures.
  • Experience in a crime detection or analysis role, either in revenue protection, policing, or associated fields.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • High attention to detail and proficiency with complex data systems.
  • Resilience and ability to cope in a pressured environment.
  • Expert user of Excel for modelling and analysis; experience using BI tools (Power BI preferred or Tableau).
  • Skilled in translating complex data into easy-to-understand management information.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of relevant rail commercial systems (e.g. Lennon, MOIRA).
  • Numerical or scientific degree and A-levels or equivalent.

Working pattern

Working an average of 37 hours per week over 5 days. Monday to Friday, Office hours; flexibility required.

The Reward

In return we offer a competitive salary and a variety of valuable benefits, including:

  • Free duty and leisure travel on SWR services for employees
  • Free leisure travel for spouse/partner and dependants (criteria dependent)
  • 75% discount on many other train operating companies
  • Full training and support with development
  • Excellent pension scheme
