Job summary

DFS is seeking a Frame Assembler in Somercotes to join a dedicated production team. You will assemble furniture frames using a range of hand tools and power tools, following strict production specifications to ensure high quality frames for a leading sofa retailer.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble furniture frames using hand and power tools per established processes and work instructions.
  • Read production specifications to ensure frames are built accurately.
  • Conduct quality checks on frames before moving to the next stage.
  • Identify damaged materials or equipment issues and raise concerns.
  • Follow health and safety procedures and use PPE at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area to support safe production.

About the role:

As a Frame Assembler, you'll play an important part in creating quality furniture that our customers can enjoy for years to come. Working as part of a supportive production team, you'll assemble furniture frames to the required quality standards while following safe working practices and agreed production processes. Your attention to detail, commitment to quality, and teamwork will help ensure every product leaving the factory reflects the high standards our customers expect from DFS.

Our 4-day afternoon shift gives you three days off every week - that's a long weekend, every weekend. You'll also enjoy a two-week shutdown every July at the start of the summer holidays, a week off at Christmas, and we don't work bank holidays, giving you even more time to relax, recharge and spend with the people who matter the most.

Once you've successfully completed your training, you'll move onto our performance-related pay structure, giving you the opportunity to increase your earnings. The more you develop your skills and performance, the greater your earning potential.

  • Competitive Pay & Work-Life Balance: £14.50 per hour until fully trained and the piecework with potential earnings of £30 - £40k per annum (Weekly Pay)
  • Working Hours : 39 hrs per week Monday to Thursday
  • Afternoon Shift Monday to Wednesday 2:00 pm - 12:20 am Thursday 2:00 pm - 11:05 pm

What you'll be doing:
  • Assembling furniture frames using a range of hand tools, power tools, jigs and fixtures, following established processes and work instructions.
  • Selecting and preparing the correct materials and components needed for each product.
  • Reading and following production specifications to ensure each frame is built accurately and consistently.
  • Carrying out quality checks as you work, making sure every frame meets our quality standards before moving to the next stage of production.
  • Identifying and reporting any damaged materials, equipment issues or quality concerns.
  • Working safely at all times, following health and safety procedures and using the correct personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Keeping your work area clean, tidy and well organised to support a safe and efficient working environment.
  • Working closely with your colleagues to meet daily production targets while maintaining a high standard of workmanship.
  • Handling materials and finished frames safely, following manual handling procedures and helping to reduce waste where possible.
  • Supporting continuous improvement by sharing ideas and contributing to more efficient ways of working.
  • Being flexible in supporting other production areas when needed, following appropriate training and guidance.
  • Taking pride in producing furniture frames that provide the strong, reliable foundation for the quality sofas our customers expect from DFS.
This role is for you if :
  • Experience in furniture manufacturing, woodworking, or a similar production environment, along with an understanding of continuous improvement or lean manufacturing principles.
  • A positive approach to working in a manufacturing or assembly environment.
  • Previous experience is beneficial, but we're also happy to support people who are keen to learn.
  • The ability to use hand and power tools safely, or the willingness to learn with the right training.
  • Good manual dexterity and an eye for detail to ensure every frame is built to a high standard.
  • The ability to follow work instructions and production specifications accurately.
  • A team-focused approach, with good communication skills and a willingness to support colleagues.
  • A reliable and dependable approach, with the ability to work towards production targets.
  • A commitment to working safely and following health and safety procedures.
