The Client

Harmonic is delighted to be working with a London-based, award-winning design consultancy known for its thoughtful, user-centric approach to the built environment. The Board is now preparing a strategic plan that will bring the next generation of leadership to the forefront. With a team of 90, the business works across architecture, and urban design, delivering projects that champion sustainability, social impact, and design excellence. Their work spans residential, cultural, and commercial spaces — often collaborating with some of the UK’s most respected developers, artists, and cultural institutions to bring meaningful, design-led spaces to life.

Culturally, this is a people-first organisation with a flat structure and a real sense of shared purpose. They are a values-led business with a strong focus on design integrity, team wellbeing, and long-term impact. The practice has built a reputation not just for great design, but also for being a fantastic place to work — with high retention, low hierarchy, and a collaborative studio culture.

The Role

The business is now seeking a Fractional Finance Director to join on a part-time basis (1-2 days per week) to support the senior leadership team through an exciting period of strategic change. The ideal candidate will play a key role in shaping the financial future of the practice, guiding decision-making with clarity and confidence while ensuring robust financial health as the company explores new revenue streams, delivery models, and potential international opportunities.

This is a high-impact role suited to a commercially minded, strategic finance leader who thrives in purpose-led, creative businesses. You’ll work closely with the Managing Director and Board to advise on growth plans, cashflow forecasting, operational efficiencies, and profitability by project. The role will also support the implementation of new systems and processes that can scale with the business as it continues to evolve.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the MD and Board to shape and deliver financial strategy.
  • Build out improved forecasting and budgeting models, supporting growth planning.
  • Advise on pricing models, project profitability, and resource planning.
  • Oversee cash flow forecasting and working capital management.
  • Review and improve internal processes and financial systems.
  • Support with Board reporting, investor relations, and scenario planning.
  • Manage external accountants and auditors.
  • Act as a trusted adviser and sounding board for the senior team.

What we need to see (required):

  • Fully Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
  • Experience in a senior finance leadership role within a creative or design-led business.
  • Track record of advising Boards and MDs on strategic financial matters.
  • Comfortable working on a fractional or part-time basis.

What we’d like to see (preferred):

  • Experience working with architectural or consultancy businesses of 50–150 people.
  • Strong understanding of project-based P&Ls and cashflow cycles.
  • Hands-on experience implementing finance systems (e.g., Xero, Syft, WorkflowMax).

Location: London (Hybrid)

Start Date: ASAP
