Job description

At OQC, we aren’t just theorising about the future; we’re building it. Born from a philosophy of bold innovation, we’ve successfully transitioned quantum computing from an academic dream into a commercial reality. The most exciting thing is that we’re just getting started.

The Mission

We’re looking for an FPGA Engineer to help build the next generation of quantum computing hardware. This role sits at the intersection of advanced electronics, precision timing, and high-performance system design — developing FPGA-based solutions that power critical quantum technologies including QEC and microwave pulse generation.

You’ll play a key role in designing reprogrammable, deterministic hardware platforms where performance, latency, and reliability are mission‑critical.

The Role

As an FPGA Engineer within our Advanced Product Development Group, you’ll design, prototype, test, and implement FPGA‑driven hardware systems for cutting‑edge quantum computing applications. You’ll collaborate across hardware, firmware, software, and R&D teams to deliver scalable, production‑ready solutions that push technical boundaries.

What You’ll Be Working On
  • Designing and developing FPGA‑based hardware components for quantum computing systems
  • Building low‑latency, precision‑timed solutions using Verilog and/or VHDL
  • Defining timing constraints and driving timing closure for complex FPGA designs
  • Collaborating with software, R&D, and engineering teams to gather requirements and deliver robust technical solutions
  • Prototyping, testing, debugging, and iterating on hardware designs to improve system performance
  • Supporting supplier evaluation, component validation, and inbound quality control activities
  • Leading technical discussions, whiteboard sessions, and design reviews to share expertise and shape next‑generation hardware platforms
What We’re Looking For
  • Experience developing FPGA solutions using Verilog and/or VHDL
  • Strong understanding of FPGA design flows, timing constraints, and timing closure
  • Experience building, modifying, and improving existing FPGA architectures
  • Knowledge of board‑level schematics, instrumentation, and hardware test infrastructure
  • Hands‑on experience with laboratory tools and hardware debugging
  • Ability to clearly communicate FPGA concepts across multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Familiarity with Git workflows and CI/CD practices
  • Degree in Electronics or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience
  • Knowledge of ADC/DAC systems and integration
The ‘Nice‑to‑Has’
  • Experience with FPGA verification and test methodologies
  • Background in Digital Signal Processing (DSP)
  • Experience designing RF, SDR, or high‑frequency applications
  • Experience developing low‑latency systems within fintech or similarly performance‑critical environments
  • Experience with Altera FPGA platforms
  • Electronics troubleshooting, PCB design, schematic capture, or board layout experience
