Job description

Location: UK or Portugal
Type: Permanent
Start Date: Immediate

Our Client, Celestia Technologies Group is an international, multi-technology group focused on continuous innovation in spacecraft communications. They deliver technology products, systems and services to the space, defence, telecoms and satellite markets, investing in research and development to give their customers a true competitive edge. They are experts in RF Engineering, Ground Station Systems, Payload Simulation and Testing, and IoT and offer a fully integrated Ground Station installation approach.

Global in reach, their multi-disciplined teams create smart responses to communications challenges using new ideas, new technologies and new ways of thinking. For over 25 years, their business has been synonymous with world-class innovation, quality and engineering excellence with a customer focus.

Celestia UK Ltd is part of Celestia Technologies Group with expertise in Antenna, Radio Frequency and Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technologies. These will be used for communicating with satellite constellations that are gathering earth observation data and providing improved access to the internet. Celestia UK Ltd is working in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA), UK Space Agency and other commercial partners.

The team here at Celestia UK Ltd have embarked on a challenging programme to design innovative technologies for High Throughput Satellite (HTS) communication systems. Projects include the well-publicised large contract with the European Space Agency (ESA) to develop a fully electronic scanning ground station, capable of tracking and communicating simultaneously with multiple satellites, as well as Scottish-Enterprise funded development of an aerospace terminal for broadband satellite communications on-the-move applications. A broad range of technical domains are being worked on including Antenna, RF, Signal Processing, Beamforming, Digital Design and Real-time Software.

With increasing commitments and anticipated growth, they are keen to expand their team and recruit highly motivated, capable engineers with good inter-personal skills and a positive attitude to tackle the seemingly impossible design requirements. As a result, an opportunity has become available for an Embedded Software Engineer to join their team based at either Edinburgh, Harwell Campus or Lisbon, Portugal.

Responsibilities

The digital team develops high-performance FPGA designs for Satellite tracking and are looking for engineers who have experience of FPGA programming using preferably VHDL and simulation tools e.g. ModelSim.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

A knowledge of Xilinx devices (including Zynq) and Xilinx tools (Vivado) is preferable. DSP implementation using MATLAB, Simulink, Xilinx HLS and Vitis is an advantage as is experience with RFSoC, but not essential.

We are looking for engineers who want to join a digital team in a hi-tech, dynamic company and have the enthusiasm and the experience to help them derive optimised and novel FPGA solutions for phased-array antennas.
