Job description

Note: This is a hybrid role, with 3-4 days in our London office at King's Cross. Candidates must have the legal right to live and work in the UK, and be able to work in-office.

About Coral

Coral is the actions platform that helps AI use enterprise data sources and tools more safely and effectively. When Claude Code uses Coral instead of MCP tools, it retrieves data with 31% higher accuracy and 70% lower LLM cost.

Coral was founded by Matt Henderson and James Summerfield, working together for the fourth time after selling their first startup to Google and leading Stripe’s international product and engineering orgs. The initial team, mostly software development, is based in the UK and Europe, and we are currently hiring for our first roles in the Bay Area.

We are venture funded (Google Ventures, Cherry Ventures) and still early, with 5,000 users of the open source app first launched in May and an enterprise product launching soon.

Why this role exists

You will be our founding BDR. There is no sales playbook yet, no dedicated sales enablement team, and no leads list. There is a product that developers are embracing and genuine benchmark performance that hooks interest. You will have the opportunity to work closely with both founders, including sitting beside the CEO in our London office. We are also currently hiring an Enterprise AE in the Bay Area.

We are hiring you to build a strategic outbound machine that can also be scaled for future BDR hires: ICP, messaging, objection handling, battlecards, call scripts, and tool stack. This is a high agency role with the opportunity for fast promotion to Account Executive within 6-12 months.

We are looking for someone who has a proven track record of taking on new challenges and achieving success in their lives, whether it’s in their career, education, sporting ability, or side projects.

If this sounds like the kind of role that fires up the entrepreneur in you, keep reading. If you want air cover, brand recognition, and a well‑oiled sales machine, this is not it.

What you will do
  • Research and build target account lists from scratch.
  • Draft messaging and build pipeline across email, LinkedIn, and cold calling.
  • Experiment with messaging and channels, and track what works.
  • Trial different AI outbound tools, or build your own to improve productivity and output; refine and establish the best stack.
  • Feed product. You will be a channel through which customer feedback lands on the roadmap. We expect you to push back on us.
  • Attend conferences and other customer events across Europe and North America.
  • Ramp the next BDRs behind you once the motion is proven.
What we are looking for
  • Minimum 1+ years of experience as a BDR, ideally in B2B. Additional sales experience is welcome.
  • Strong cold calling and qualification skills.
  • A track record of consistently hitting or beating quota at a company with an ambitious, demanding sales culture.
  • Comfort selling early, with no brand to lean on. You have either done a 0→1 role before, or you have been at a Series A / B company.
  • Confident communicator, able to engage junior engineers through to C‑Suite executives.
  • Curiosity about AI agent infrastructure, and how different companies and sectors are building agents.
  • Creativity mixed with a bias for action. You plan and implement different initiatives (e.g. sequence structures, persona targeting), and don’t need perfect information before acting.
  • A builder's instinct. You build the deck the next person will use, and experiment with positioning rather than wait for permission.
  • Located in London and able to attend events regularly throughout Europe, and occasionally in North America. We work together in-person in our King’s Cross office 3-4 days a week.
  • Bonus: Experience selling developer or infrastructure products to software engineering buyers; exposure to structured sales training.
What will make this hard

We want to be upfront:

  • The product is nascent. There are rough edges. Features customers ask for are sometimes not yet built. You will have to sell the trajectory, not just the snapshot.
  • The category is being defined. Most people you contact will not have a name for the problem yet. Part of your job is giving them one.
  • No safety net. No RevOps team building you a leads list or setting up tools, no marketing-sourced leads, and no playbook. Day one, the pipeline is what you build.
  • Real risk. We are early‑stage. The upside is large; the downside is that this is higher risk than a comparable role at a Big Tech company.
What you get
  • A high base salary and variable comp. We pay seriously because the bar is high, and we do not want you taking a discount for being early.
  • Meaningful equity. If we build the company we believe we can build, this is the most valuable part of the package.
  • A product that sparks technical interest. Our benchmarks are public, our code is open-source, and engineers like talking to us.
  • World class colleagues. Every team member has a track record of achievement.
  • Founders in the trenches with you. You will have a front row seat to how a category defining company is built, and spend meaningful time with the founders.
  • Opportunity to build the function. As Founding BDR you will help build the org, hire the team, and write the playbook. The next ten sellers will work the system you create.
  • Private health insurance, pension, 25 days of annual leave + UK public holidays, bi-annual company offsites, and a generous stipend towards your WFH set up.
Location

London hybrid (3-4 days per week in our King’s Cross office) + regular travel to events.

  • First Round: Culture fit and work experience, with Founding AE and Operations Lead
  • Second Round: Advanced culture fit, work experience, and scenario-based questions with Founding AE and Operations Lead
  • Third Round: Take home outbound assignment and 30 minute presentation
  • Final Round: In person coffee with Matt (Founder & CEO)
