We’re looking for an exceptional Foundation DevOps Engineer to help us make a difference to our planet.

This role may be suitable for hybrid working, where an employee works part of the week in the office and part from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement, and the advertised location will be your contractual place of work.

The Internet Applications Core Team provides 3rd line support 24/7 for a range of on-premises and cloud-based operational systems, delivering safety-critical public and premium services, which provide information to help people stay safe and thrive.

The team provides on-call cover and undertakes these duties as part of an on-call roster.

The Internet Applications Core team has a DevOps capability, and this role is defined by the Development Operations Foundation (DevOps) Engineer - Government Digital and Data Profession Capability Framework.

Your key duties:

  • Provide 3rd-line support to the systems the team is responsible for, supporting the on-call roster as required.
  • Support the development and operation of software through tools, environments, and practices.
  • Manage tools and testing environments, maintain development standards, and write software that automates systems.
  • Support colleagues in the Met Office teams to ensure high-quality operational service.
  • Participate in the 24/7/365 on-call roster to respond to operational needs.

Person specification

  • A genuine enthusiasm for working in IT with some experience of coding in a home, educational, or work environment. Experience with Linux and scripting or Python is desirable.
  • Experience working with systems that track changes, incidents, or requests within IT environments.
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot effectively, solving complex technical problems.
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a team, contributing to achieving goals.
  • Adept at communicating and collaborating with customers, colleagues, and peers.
