Job summary

London Borough of Waltham Forest is recruiting social workers to join the regional fostering recruitment and assessment team, working across Havering, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest to recruit, assess and support prospective foster carers.

The role involves delivering high-quality fostering assessments, guiding applicants through the assessment process, and contributing to carer preparation and training to ensure safe, nurturing homes for children in northeast London.

Qualifications

• Professional social work qualification and Social Work England registration are required.
• Knowledge of child development and attachment is essential.
• Fostering legislation and standards knowledge is required.
• Commitment to reflective practice and ongoing professional development must be shown.

Responsibilities

• Undertake comprehensive, evidence-based fostering assessments from allocation through to panel and recommendation.
• Plan and manage all stages of the assessment process, including visits, checks, references and evidence gathering within timescales.
• Assess applicants, household members and support networks to evaluate suitability to foster.
• Analyse parenting capacity, safeguarding awareness, and family dynamics to inform recommendations.
• Provide guidance and support to applicants through preparation for panel and outcomes.
