Forward Deployed Engineer - AI / Healthcare

London | £90k-£140k + Equity | 4/5x On-site

We're partnering with a high-growth, VC-backed AI startup building technology to tackle one of healthcare's biggest operational challenges.

The company is developing AI-powered products that automate complex administrative workflows within healthcare, helping overstretched teams spend less time on repetitive processes and more time focused on patient care.

Following significant early customer traction, they're expanding their engineering team and hiring several Forward Deployed Engineers in London.

The role

This isn't a traditional software engineering position where you'll be handed a perfectly defined ticket and asked to implement it.

You'll work closely with customers and internal product teams to understand messy, real-world problems, determine what should actually be built, and then take ownership of delivering the solution.

You'll be responsible for:

• Building and shipping AI-powered workflows across the full stack
• Working directly with users to understand complex operational problems
• Turning ambiguous, non-technical requirements into robust technical solutions
• Taking products from initial idea and prototype through to production
• Bringing customer insights back into the core product
• Proactively identifying and fixing problems rather than waiting for them to be assigned
• Contributing to engineering standards and technical decisions within a small, high-performing team

What we're looking for

We're particularly interested in strong software engineers with excellent product instincts.

You'll ideally have:

• Excellent software engineering fundamentals
• Experience building and shipping production systems
• Evidence of owning difficult technical problems end-to-end
• The ability to operate effectively when requirements are ambiguous
• Strong communication skills and confidence working directly with customers
• Experience within a startup, scale-up or similarly high-ownership environment
• A genuine interest in applying technology to meaningful healthcare problems

Experience with LLMs, agents, AI workflow automation or other production AI systems would be highly relevant, as well as strong software engineering and the ability to build products people actually use are more important.

The environment

This is a small, ambitious engineering team where you'll have significant ownership from day one.

The culture favours people who move quickly, take responsibility beyond their immediate remit and are comfortable solving problems without lots of process or hierarchy.

The company is intentionally primarily in-person, with engineers working from their Central London office or alongside customers as required.
