Job summary

NextPharma UK is seeking a Formulation Scientist to contribute across clinical manufacturing, formulation development, and hands-on laboratory work within the development environment at our Livingston site.

You will design and optimize oral formulations, manage projects, generate reports, and support technology transfer to commercial manufacturing, working with cross‑functional teams in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a BSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, or a related discipline
• Proven experience within the pharmaceutical/biotech industry with drug development
• Experience in oral formulation development, preferably with liquid-filled hard capsules
• Track record delivering R&D projects from concept to completion
• Strong written and verbal English; ability to produce technical reports and presentations
• Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently

Responsibilities

• Design and develop formulations and manufacturing processes for encapsulated drug products
• Act as a key contact for assigned projects with clients and internal stakeholders
• Plan, design, execute, and report experimental work to high scientific standards
• Interpret data and provide clear, justified recommendations to advance projects
• Drive formulation and process development including scale‑up and robustness studies
• Prepare high‑quality client documentation: protocols, reports, and batch records
• Support small‑scale GMP manufacture of technical and clinical batches
• Contribute to technology transfer to commercial manufacturing environments
• Provide expert technical support to Manufacturing for troubleshooting and optimization
• Mentor and develop less experienced colleagues to foster team growth
