Manpower is currently seeking an interim Formulation Scientist to work with our global FMCG client Unilever, renowned for brands such as Dove, Sure, Persil, and Simple. The role involves becoming an integral part of their fast-paced FMCG environment.

This full-time temporary position is based at our client’s scientific Research & Development facility in Port Sunlight Village, Wirral, easily accessible by train and car. The role lasts for 5 months, requiring 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The compensation is competitive, ranging from £29,719 to £35,871 per annum, pro rata, depending on experience.

The global hair format team is looking for a formulation scientist to help deliver innovative hair products that will delight consumers. The team is involved in new product development from conception to completion, working across various brands and product ranges such as shampoos, conditioners, leave-on creams, and aerosols. Responsibilities include formulation development and quality assessment to create final products.

Key Accountabilities

1. Develop hair formulations, including shampoos and rinse-off conditioners.
2. Perform product quality checks and performance measurements.
3. Conduct product qualification studies, including stability, compatibility, and corrosion testing.
4. Analyze, collate, and communicate data and insights effectively.
5. Prepare written reports and deliver oral presentations within the team.
6. Support hair innovation projects through product testing, data analysis, and reporting.

Key Requirements

1. BSc or MSc in a scientific discipline, preferably related to formulation.
2. Laboratory experience, ideally in formulation or quality control, with experience in shampoo and conditioner development being advantageous.
3. Enthusiastic, self-motivated, hardworking, loyal, and committed.
4. Strong technical skills with curiosity and the ability to interpret and analyze data using digital systems.
5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
