Job description

We are currently seeking an interim Formulation Scientist to work with our global FMCG client Unilever, renowned for brands such as Dove, Sure, Persil, and Simple. Join their fast-paced FMCG environment as an integral team member.

The position is based at our client's scientific Research & Development facility in Port Sunlight Village, Wirral, easily accessible by train and car. This is a full-time temporary role for 6 months, requiring 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Compensation is competitive, up to £33,000 per annum, pro rata, depending on experience.

Please note, due to the urgency of the role, only candidates with a maximum of a 2-week notice period will be considered.

Role Overview

The global hair format team seeks a formulation scientist to help deliver innovative hair products that delight consumers. The team is involved in new product development from conception to completion, working across various brands and product ranges such as shampoos, conditioners, leave-on creams, and aerosols. The role involves formulation development and quality assessment to create final products.

Key Responsibilities

1. Develop hair formulations, including shampoos and rinse-off conditioners.
2. Perform product quality checks and performance measurements.
3. Conduct product qualification studies, including stability, compatibility, and corrosion testing.
4. Analyze, collate, and communicate data and insights effectively.
5. Deliver written reports and oral presentations within the team.
6. Support hair innovation projects through product testing, data analysis, and reporting.

Minimum Requirements

• BSc or MSc in a scientific discipline related to formulation.
• Lab experience in formulation or quality control; experience with shampoos and conditioners is preferred.
• Enthusiastic, self-motivated, hardworking, loyal, and committed.
• Strong technical skills and curiosity, with the ability to interpret and analyze data using digital systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Customer-focused mindset.
• Bias for action and a growth mindset.
