Job description

We are looking for a Counterbalance forklift driver for a global food packaging company in Poole.

This is a permanent position. **A Counterbalance License is essential for this role, and full training will be provided for a Bendi (Pivot) Truck for committed candidates**.

The role includes both forklift driving and machine operating, with an hourly rate of £15.26 per hour which includes shift allowance. The standard workweek is 42 hours.

The shift pattern will start on the standard 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, to allow for training, then will shift to a rotating schedule of (4 weeks of days and 2 weeks of nights):

  • Week 1 (Days 6am - 6pm): Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
  • Week 2 (Days 6am - 6pm): Wednesday, Thursday
  • Week 3 (Days 6am - 6pm): Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
  • Week 4 (Days 6am - 6pm): Wednesday, Thursday
  • Week 5 (Nights 6pm - 6am): Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
  • Week 6 (Nights 6pm - 6am): Wednesday, Thursday

Then the schedule reverts to week 1. Note that Sunday is counted as the first day of the week, so in the first week, you are paid for 48 hours, and in the second week, for 36 hours.

Overview

The main role of the stores person is the movement and storage of materials and products around the site, as well as preparing finished goods for dispatch to customers.

Mechanical Handling Equipment is used extensively. Stores personnel are required to operate the following equipment:

  • Counter Balance forklifts (essential)
  • Bendi Forklift (desirable but full training will be provided)
  • Pivot Steer forklifts
  • Ride-on powered pallet trucks
  • Scissor lifts - Not everyone needs this license; it is not a prerequisite

Tasks & Responsibilities

RF handheld computers are used to record stock movements throughout the site. Stores personnel must be competent in using them to accurately record stock movements.

Goods in - Unloading and storage of raw materials and finished products:

  • Unload goods delivered by suppliers and verify the delivery note against the actual delivery.
  • Move items to and record their storage locations accurately.
  • Machine operation - setting and operating the granulation machine.
