Job description

Are you passionate about trees from growing them to planting them? Do you have a keen eye for detail and a love for working outdoors? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you!

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Forestry Planting/Nursery Operative to join our dynamic team at the Henley-in-Arden Depot and our Tree Nursery. As part of the Forestry Section, you will play a crucial role in delivering a range of projects for both internal and external clients.

About the role

You will be responsible for carrying out tree planting and watering and associated forestry nursery tasks under the guidance of the Arboricultural Team Manager. Your work will contribute to the county's forestry section, ensuring high standards and adherence to best practices.

Duties include:

  • Ground preparation, planting, spraying, and driving tractors and other large plant.
  • Planting and growing trees and shrubs from seed to standard sizes.
  • Ensuring the section adheres to the council's plant healthy accreditation.
  • Tree planting within the highway, mulching, watering, and root barrier installation.
  • Day-to-day maintenance of equipment associated with land-based operations.
  • Application of herbicides and keeping relevant COSHH records.
  • Driving vehicles up to 3.5T and towing up to 3.5T.
  • Maintaining seed sowing programmed stratification.
  • Awareness of protected species and habitats impacting tree works and hedge cutting works.
  • Ensuring adherence to Health and Safety at Work Act at all times.
  • Undertaking works outside normal hours when required.
  • Working knowledge of PUWER and COSHH, including record-keeping requirements.

Training for chainsaw certifications and PA1 and PA6 qualifications may be provided to successful candidates if these are not already achieved.

Working Conditions:

This role involves regular manual handling, working at height, lone working, night work, and regular outdoor work. You will be exposed to various hazards and risks, including respiratory irritants, skin irritants, and vibrating tools/machinery.
