Job description

About Us

Grwp Llandrillo Menai was established in 2012 through mergers between Coleg Llandrillo, Coleg Menai, and Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor. It employs 2,000 staff and delivers courses to around 21,000 students, including over 1,500 higher education students, across Anglesey, Conwy, Denbighshire, and Gwynedd.

The Grwp aims to support the economy of North Wales by equipping local people with the skills and qualifications needed to ensure the region's competitiveness and success. Its wide range of courses, high-quality learning experiences, first-class facilities, and talented staff contribute to achieving these goals.

Additional opportunities to study locally for degrees and professional qualifications enable more young people and mature learners to reach their potential. A University Centre at the Rhos-on-Sea Campus offers excellent facilities for higher education students.

Our mission of 'Improving People's Futures' reflects our commitment as a further education organization. While delivering successful qualifications is essential, we also aim to impact social cohesion and economic development, positioning ourselves at the heart of our communities and driving North Wales' success through skills development.

Job Purpose

The Forestry department is based at Coleg Glynllifon. Students study full-time Level 2 and 3 courses, with opportunities to complete Level 2 apprenticeships in Environmental Conservation with suitable employers. Students enter the workforce with employers engaged in a range of services within the woodland and forestry industry, including large-scale forestry management, infrastructure maintenance, tree surgery, and land management.

Students come from diverse backgrounds; many are school leavers beginning their careers, while some mature students may change careers or bring previous industry experience.

Most students progress into employment within the industry, which has high demand, while others continue their education at university.

The Forestry lecturer will have pastoral responsibilities and ensure that quality standards set by the qualification awarding body are met. The curriculum is determined by the awarding body, and the lecturer will develop engaging sessions to facilitate effective learning. Practical instruction is a key component, requiring coordination with the team to reinforce theory and industrial knowledge. Practical experience in forestry is important for learning and industrial relevance.

The department trains students in various forestry-related skills, including short courses in chainsaw operation and maintenance, brush cutters, chippers, and first aid. Course content covers land management, pest and disease control, recreational use, woodland development, and project management.

The lecturer is expected to deliver high-quality education, create effective learning opportunities, and support students in achieving their full potential.
