Job description

Forestry England – Rural Investment Surveyor – Unlocking Commercial Potential

Office/Home working with travel to Bristol and/or London

REF: 10094

National Role – Office/Home working with travel to Bristol and/or London

A unique and exciting new opportunity for a Rural Investment Surveyor to join Forestry England’s national Estates team and support the Director of Estates in focusing on the strategic development of new income-generating opportunities notably in relation to Green Finance, Renewable Energy, and broader commercial ventures.

Forestry England manages 1,500 sites across England covering over 252,000+ ha of land (notably forestry, agricultural, and conservation habitats), including some of the country’s most important and iconic landscapes, making them the largest single land manager in England. Their regional Estates teams also oversee a diverse portfolio of non-forestry assets including commercial, residential, and agricultural properties within 6 Forest Districts.

The national Estates team plays a crucial role in driving national initiatives and supporting the district operational teams by setting the strategic direction to enable efficient and effective management and the delivery of new commercial activities across the Forestry England estate.

This is an exciting time to join the national Estates team as they implement a significant transformation in their strategic asset management, net zero ambition, and financial performance. With a strong focus on growth and innovation, the team is eager to unlock more of the estate’s commercial potential, and this role will be key in making that happen.

Person Specification

  • Membership of RICS (open to either rural or commercial experience)
  • Track record in the delivery of rural commercially focused projects and growing income, preferably with some working knowledge of renewables and green finance.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentational skills including influencing, negotiation, networking, and persuading with a variety of audiences.
  • Highly adaptable to be able to shift mindset between disciplines.
  • Business/commercial acumen, able to think strategically.
  • A team player who enjoys working in a collaborative environment, but also able to operate independently.
