Forest School Instructor

Location:Blackburn
Start Date: September 2025
Hours: Monday to Friday, 32.5 hours per week (term time)
Contract: Temp to Perm
Pay:Actual salary £24,000 – £27,220 per annum

About the School:
This is a small special school supporting young people aged 8-16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH). The school prides itself on encouraging pupils to strive to achieve the best possible outcomes.

The Role:
We are seeking a skilled Forest School Instructor/Tutor to join the team on a permanent basis from September 2025. This part-time role (32.5 hours per week) involves planning, preparing, and delivering Forest School sessions, including accompanying trips and excursions, some of which may occur on weekends or overnight.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver a range of Forest School sessions and activities

  • Maintain and monitor Forest School equipment and education stores

  • Keep accurate records of equipment usage and repairs

  • Prepare lesson plans and required equipment in advance

  • Use behaviour management strategies to foster a positive learning environment

  • Promote outdoor learning and the ethos of Forest Schools

Requirements:

  • Experience in planning, preparing, and delivering Forest School sessions or similar outdoor learning programs

  • Ability to assess pupil needs and adapt activities accordingly

  • Knowledge of The National Curriculum and relevant Schemes of Work

  • Experience writing risk assessments

  • Passion for working outdoors in all weather conditions while ensuring children’s safety
