We’re looking for a Forest Craftsperson to join our South Region Land Management Team. You’ll be based out of our Straiton office, with the role offered on a permanent, full-time basis.
As Forest Craftsperson, you’ll predominantly work outdoors in all weather conditions, often in remote and challenging environments. You’ll support the delivery of a varied programme of forest management and stewardship activities, including chainsaw work, windblow clearance, tree felling, tree planting, deer and stock fencing maintenance and weed control. You’ll also assist with visitor facility maintenance, estate upkeep, environmental management work and supporting colleagues across a range of operational activities. Working closely with Foresters and Worksite Supervisors, you’ll help prioritise and deliver annual work programmes while maintaining high standards of health and safety. The role also includes attending training courses, using technology and mapping systems in the field, and supporting other teams when required.
To be successful, you’ll be a motivated individual with a genuine passion for working outdoors. You’ll have strong problem-solving skills, be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, and demonstrate good communication skills. Excellent time management and organisational skills are essential, along with the ability to prioritise workloads and work safely and efficiently. You should be confident using computers and Microsoft Office applications and be willing to learn and develop through training and mentoring opportunities. You’ll also need to hold, or be willing to gain, industry-standard certification in chainsaw operation, brushcutter use and pesticide application. Desirable experience includes forestry operations such as tree planting, tree work and deer or stock fencing, together with knowledge and experience of applying health and safety principles in the workplace.
