Job description

Salary – Up to £36,000 (depending on experience and interview performance)

Full time, permanent role

Do you have prior experience writing streamlined forensic reports (SFRs)? Have you analysed drug exhibits from crime scenes for police forces? Are you comfortable attending court as an Expert Witness?

We are currently offering the opportunity for an experienced Reporting Officer to join a drugs forensics team based in Derbyshire. Our client is seeking a hard-working and engaging individual with extensive experience writing reports on drugs of abuse.

The Role

As a Forensics Reporting Officer, you will be responsible for:

  • Independently processing and producing reports (fact and opinion-based) based on drug exhibits from crime scenes,
  • Presenting reports to other staff members and clients (police forces),
  • Acting as the primary contact for the police,
  • Carrying out secondary checks of reports from other staff members,
  • Assisting with analysis of drug exhibits within a UKAS-accredited laboratory.

Skills and Experience Needed

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • A minimum of 5 years residence in the UK (essential for vetting and security clearance)
  • Existing UK work eligibility (essential)
  • Extensive experience writing streamlined forensic reports (SFRs) for cases involving drugs of abuse (essential)
  • Experience interacting with police forces regarding the findings of your reports (essential)
  • Understanding of current legislation relating to drugs of abuse, such as the Misuse of Drugs act 1971 (essential)
  • Experience giving evidence in court as an expert witness (desirable)
  • Experience analysing drug samples within a toxicology / police lab (desirable)
  • Experience using analytical equipment such as GC-MS / GC-FID (desirable)
  • A degree-level (or equivalent) qualification in a forensic / chemistry discipline (desirable)

The Package

Our client is offering this opportunity as a full time, permanent opportunity. They are offering a starting salary of up to £36,000, with a strong benefits package.
