Job summary

An exciting opportunity exists for a Forensic Psychologist at HMP Ashfield in Bristol. Qualifications

  • Close to qualification or within six months of HCPC registration.
  • Forensic psychologist-in-training on the BPS route, Stage 1 completed.
  • Qualifications in psychological treatment of violent and sexual offending.

Responsibilities

  • Completing psychological assessments and preparing parole reports.
  • Conducting assessments and individual work with prisoners.
  • Managing and supervising forensic psychologists-in-training.

Job description

Discover an exciting opportunity to enrich your career as a Forensic Psychologist at HMP Ashfield in Bristol. This role offers a variety of therapeutic approaches, including EMDR and schema therapy, and involves delivering psychological services within a secure environment.

As part of our team, you’ll help with:

  1. Completing psychological assessments such as HCR-, SARA, WAIS, IPDE, and PCL-R
  2. Preparing parole reports and directions
  3. Conducting assessments and individual work with prisoners, fostering safety and rehabilitation
  4. Managing and supervising forensic psychologists-in-training and programme staff
  5. Research and consultation with prison staff
  6. Deciding on candidates’ suitability for interventions
  7. Providing staff training
  8. Ensuring compliance with the Code of Conduct
  9. Potential involvement in offending behaviour programmes

HMP Ashfield is a category B male prison with an operational capacity for prisoners. The role contributes to stabilising and reintegrating prisoners into society.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Close to qualification or within six months of HCPC registration
  • Forensic psychologist-in-training on the BPS route, with Stage 1 completed and most of Stage 2
  • Doctorate route trainees, with placements completed and within six months of HCPC registration
  • Qualified HCPC-registered forensic psychologist

Knowledge

  • Psychological treatment of violent and sexual offending

Additional requirements

  • Experience with assessments like WAIS, HCR-, PCL-r, IPDE
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and multidisciplinary
